Rinku Singh Zimbabwe Match Doubt | India Batter Returns Home Before T20 World Cup Clash

Rinku Singh Flies Home After Family Emergency, Doubtful for Zimbabwe Clash

Rinku Singh Zimbabwe Match Doubt: India batter Rinku Singh has returned home due to a family emergency, casting uncertainty over his availability for the upcoming Super Eight fixture against Zimbabwe in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

The left-handed batter did not attend India’s training session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday evening. While the rest of the Indian squad participated in net practice ahead of the February 26 encounter in Chennai, Rinku was missing from the drills.

It remains unclear whether he will rejoin the team in time for the crucial clash against Zimbabwe. Team management is expected to take a final call closer to match day.

Rinku has endured a relatively quiet tournament so far. During the group stage, he managed scores of 6, 1, 11 not out and 6 not out. In India’s recent 76-run defeat to South Africa in Ahmedabad, he was dismissed for a duck.

If Rinku is unavailable for selection, India have bench options in Sanju Samson and Axar Patel. Samson’s inclusion could prompt a reshuffle in the batting order, while Axar may slot in at No. 8 — the position Rinku occupied in the previous outing.

After facing Zimbabwe in Chennai, India will take on West Indies in their final Super Eight match on March 1 in Kolkata. Should India qualify for the semi-finals, the knockout fixture is scheduled for March 5 in Mumbai. However, if Pakistan emerge as the opponent, the semi-final will be held in Colombo on March 4.

For now, India await clarity on Rinku Singh’s situation as they prepare for a must-win encounter in the Super Eight stage.
